Should I be concerned about my uncircumscised son's penis, which our practitioner mentioned has a tight skin?
I
had chosen not to have my one male child circumscised. He's 4 1/2 now.
However, without any men around us to compare with or consult with, I'm
wondering about what the practitioner said at his last well-child
check-up. Should I really be instructing my son on manipulating the
skin, pulling it back, or should the whole thing be left alone? The
truth is that we never think much about it. Will it not be right when he
grows older if he doesn't play around with it now and practice pulling
the skin back? Any advice or experience would be helpful. I'm a single
mom and I actually do not know anything about this topic.
I
was worried about my 2 year old's foreskin not retracting like one
doctor said it should, so I did some research on the net. I found a
site, which I'm not sure if I can find again, that said that the
foreskin really doesn't retract fully until late teens, early twenties.
Before then, it should not be forced back. The "tightness" of the
foreskin and the "small" opening is a safety shield against germs. It is
normal for the tip to be a little bit pink. To help avoid infections,
make sure he doesn't have too many bubble baths, as the detergent can
cause irritation.
I really think a lot of doctors are not well
educated regarding the workings of the foreskin and are too quick to
recommend they have it snipped.
In my opinion the foreskin
retracting so late could've been the body's way of ensuring the young
man didn't have sex until he was "fully matured", when the foreskin
retracted fully. That's my theory anyway.
He
needs to learn to pull the foreskin back in any event while bathing in
order to keep the area clean. It should never be forced or manipulated
painfully, but he should begin learning to move it while bathing so that
it just becomes part of the daily routine. (And by the by, you might do
well to get a shower card with testicular self-exam instructions when
he's older as well.) Maybe you could work into it with a children's book
on how the body works, and cleaning different parts of the body? My
husband, who is uncircumcised, got a rather nasty bladder infection when
he was about 10 or 11 and had to learn that then, so it is only to your
son's good to learn to wash that way now, and it may assist with the
tight foreskin issue which sometimes is not actually an issue. I will
warn you that some men do wind up having to be circumcised later in life
due to issues with the foreskin, which as I understand it is far more
painful, but I think the cleanliness issue is more important than the
supposed "tight foreskin," he's probably young yet to see if that's a
problem.
If you don't feel comfortable instructing your
son, you could try getting your doctor or a *really* trusted male with
you very nearby(ie, your dad or brother) to do that, but your
practitioner probably told you to instruct him for the child's comfort
level.
Yes,
you should be concerned; it could cause painful sores later, and he may
be forced to have a circumcision to rid them. Circumcision can be done
at any age.
is
uncessary to circumscised your son's penis unless his penis has a tight
skin.because i dont circumscised mine, i dont like and afraid to be
circumscised, and it just fine till now ,as long i discipline cleaning
my penis regularly.
why some religion / doctor suggest men to circumcsise their penis ?
because tight skin = > hardly clean = > dirty = > bacteria = > could infected himself / anyone who s e x with him.
i'm
a single mom too... my son knows how to pull it back.. he is 2. i have
taught him to only pull it back while int eh cath tub after he washes
his hands.. my brother was *cut* ither but he would never pull his back
and was always complaing that it hurts... but now that he is 17 it is
better..but he was about 11 or 12 when he didn't want to pull it back..
hope this helps.. but i think you should teach your son to pull it back
as it does need to be cleaned everyday...
That
is disturbing to read ugh ouch! If you would've done it when he was
born, he wouldn't go in life remembering or thinking about it, but now
if he has to have it circumcised he will remember that and that is one
of the memories you don't want to remember. If this would have been
taken care of when he was born this would have and would been easier on
both of you, especially him.
WELL IF THE SKIN IS NOT PULLED BACK ALL THE TIME AND WASHED
REALLY WELL THE PENIS CAN GET INFECTED AND THE SKIN CAN
ACTUALLY GROW TOGETHER.
WHY DIDN'T YOU GET HIM CIRCUMCISED?
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER IF YOU HAD OF.
I THINK YOU SHOULD BE KEEPING IT PULLED BACK AND KEEP IT CLEAN.
JUST THINK OF THE PAIN HE WILL GO THROUGH IF IT IS NOT WASHED WELL AND PULLED BACK?
INFECTION=PAIN
A 4 YEAR OLD IS NOT GOING TO BE KEEPING IT PULLED BACK ALL THE TIME.
YOUR THE ONE WHO IS GOING TO HAVE TO DO IT.
HE IS YOUR SON, IT IS NOT SICKENING TO HELP HIM OUT.
UNTIL HE CAN DO IT OWN HIS OWN= WHICH SHOULD HAPPEN ABOUT THE TIME HE GOES TO SCHOOL.
you
must be concerned of it..be your son circumcised or else when he is
grown up from adolescent to a full and mature man ready to fall in love,
ready to go on dating, and ready to get a wife..SHE WILL BLAME YOU FOR
THE PROBLEM HE WILL BE ENCOUNTERING as a consequence for not being
circumcised..believe me..
I
know quite a few guys that complain about their foreskin hurting &
being too tight. You should try to get your son's foreskin cut, you
might be saving him from discomfort later on.
Oops, that is true..your son is now old enough to have long term memory! Hmmm.
well
if he has no problem in urinating or does not suffer from urinary tract
infection, which manifest as burning micturation, frequency n the child
holding his penis all the time, then no need to go for circumcision.
