Yeast infection symptoms depend on the particular type of infection you have. For each type listed below there may be other ailments that exhibit symptoms that are very similar to yeast infection. A Candida infection in the mouth is sometimes called "thrush." Symptoms include painful white patches in the mouth, tongue, or throat. Again, because other infections cause similar symptoms, it's important to go to a doctor for an accurate diagnosis if you haven't encountered the condition before.
Babies sometimes get oral yeast infection or thrush symptoms. If they're nursing, they can easily infect the mother's nipples. Baby thrush appears as white patches in the mouth. Baby thrush may also be involved in diaper rash.
Systemic yeast infection (candidiasis) is extremely rare in normal, healthy people. Untreated, it can be life-threatening. The symptoms vary widely. Most people who suffer from the systemic form of candidiasis have underlying defects in their immune system.
